Tax planning and preparation in Miami, built around the year ahead.

VM Tax Consulting is a Miami-based CPA firm that plans the year before it happens and prepares the returns that carry the plan out — for business owners, high-income earners, investors, real estate owners, families, and the growing number of people who have just made Florida home. Meetings are by video or phone, so a consultation fits into the day whether you are in Brickell, Coral Gables, or Fort Lauderdale.

What we do

Planning first. Preparation by the same team.

Most Miami tax preparers report what already happened. We work with you during the year, while entity choices, compensation, purchases, and timing can still be changed, then prepare the returns so the strategy actually shows up on the filing.

Florida has no state income tax, which is exactly why people move here — and exactly why the state they left looks hard at whether the move was real. The federal planning, the residency documentation, and the return all have to agree.

Likely a fit if you

  • Own a Miami-area business — an S corporation, partnership, LLC, or professional practice — and want the year planned, not just filed
  • Earn a high income from wages, equity compensation, or investments and suspect you are overpaying
  • Moved to Florida recently, or are about to, from New York, New Jersey, California, Illinois, or another high-tax state
  • Own rentals or short-term rentals, trade actively, or have income, accounts, or family abroad

Bring last year’s return. You will know on the first call whether planning is likely to pay for itself — or whether you simply need a well-prepared return.

How it works

Three steps from first call to a working plan.

1

Discovery

A review of your last two returns, this year’s numbers, and what is ahead — by video or phone. You will know from the first conversation whether planning is likely to pay for itself or a well-prepared return is all you need.

2

Written strategy

A plan that lists each recommended strategy, what it requires from you, and its projected tax effect in dollars — so decisions are made with numbers, not guesses.

3

Implementation and check-ins

We coordinate with your bookkeeper, attorney, and financial advisor, check in each quarter so the plan keeps pace with your year, and prepare the returns when the year closes.

Questions

Before you book.

Do I need to come to an office?

No. Consultations and engagements run by video or phone, documents are exchanged electronically, and returns are signed electronically. We are based in Miami and work with clients across Florida and the rest of the country the same way.

I just moved to Florida. What do I need to do for taxes?

Establish and document Florida domicile — a declaration of domicile, driver’s license, voter registration, homestead on your residence, and the pattern of days and ties that supports it — and file a part-year return in the state you left for the year of the move. New York, New Jersey, California, and other high-tax states audit departures regularly, so the planning is about making the move hold up, not just making it.

Can you just prepare my return?

Yes. We prepare individual and business returns with or without a planning engagement. The fit is best when the return has some complexity — a business, rentals, trading activity, equity compensation, K-1s, international items, or more than one state. For a return that is just a W-2 and a standard deduction, we will say so and point you somewhere less expensive.

What makes you different from other Miami CPA firms?

Two things. Planning is the practice, not an add-on to tax season: the work happens during the year, and the deliverable is a written plan with each strategy’s projected tax effect in dollars. And the firm is founder-led: Vince Mongio — CPA, EA, CIA, CFE, MACC — takes every consultation and reviews every plan and return personally.
